After hearing a podcast about the benefits of Power Lung, I decided to give it a try. Deeper controlled breathing is something we can all benefit from, and this gadget looked to be a promising bio-hack.
Okay, here's the scoop:
Power Lung works by creating resistance on the inhale and the exhale.
Sound familiar? It's the same concept as resistance training (think eccentric and concentric). Our breathing muscles are strengthened when they work against force.
I ordered the "sport" model and have exercised my lungs while sitting at my desk or at a stop light. After using it for two weeks (less than 10 minutes a day), I've noticed a significant improvement in my ability to draw breath deep into my diaphragm and exhale slowly.
If I had it to do over again, I would've started with a less aggressive model. The resistance on the sport is fairly high. It's recommended for "an elite athlete on the conditioning level of someone in Navy SEALs, Special Ops or SOCOM community." Umm, yeah, not so much...let's just say I have plenty of room to improve!
Power Lung is a great gadget for
